thanks for stopping by..and i’ll answer your questions as best as i can.
How did I get here? hmmm….I’d like to say countless nights of hard work..but that isn’t enough. Sometimes you need luck…sometimes you need to know when an opportunity comes and you need to grab it. You need to grab it and hold on like it was your last chance for life. But what alot of people don’t know…is that by studying music, the equipment we use and how to use it, learning how to write songs and stuff of that nature..well..you kind of create your own luck.
Alot of it also is being humble…knowing that you are here because people have brought you here.Your skills are not enough. You must network..make friends and be friendly to everyone you meet as you never know when the person you looked down upon will be in a position in the future to help you..and vice versa. You have to love what you do…not because its fun..but because it would feel as if you died if you were not able to do it anymore. This is the way I look at music and our scene.
I at one time, when i was very young, wanted to be a star…which was the wrong approach. It got me nowhere. Something funny happenned to me many years ago though. I stopped thinking like that and was just happy that I was able to do what I loved for a living. That I was blessed even though I might not be where I wanted to be and I might not be as rich as I wanted to be. BUT.. I was still better off than many. When I began to think that way…my life changed for the better. I began to write songs because I liked to write songs. I began to make music..not because I had to..but because I loved to and it’s all i wanted to do during the day and night. This is something that you can’t learn….it just appears one day and your mindset changes.
So…go out and learn everything about equipment….about sequencers, synths, plug ins…compression techniques..songwriting. Use the tool that I used…the Internet. Dig deep…Use it as if it were the bible in your musical life. As your learning keep yourself level headed as as fast as you come up..you can come down. It happens to everyone ..one day. If you live like this..then when your an old man…you will not have one regret because you did what you did out of love. Because you didn’t learn music….you became it! hope this helps and may you be blessed on your journey
one love Dennis
